Here it is. This is truly my greatest achievement! It took over five days to build, and
a lot of hard work to complete the center piece of my system. The subwoofer uses a
12" 200 Watt RMS SWAN 305 driver powered by a Paramount Pictures Subwoofer Amplifier. The box
is made of 1" thick MDF, braced with 1x1" (glued, caulked, and screwed), and finished with
1/4" pine with four coats of Poly Eurathane/stain combo in a natural cherry color. Dual 3" diameter ports.
Power "on" LED light is located between ports. This beast
has a tunning frequency (Fb) of 23Hz, a minus 3dB (F3) of 25Hz, and a -10 dB of 17 Hz! The internal volume is
4.24^3ft. External measurments are 20.5 x 20.5 x 28.25". I don't have a scale, but this must weight at least
100 Lbs! This subwoofer is truly amazing! This hits the rock bottom bass notes. It is almost scarry.
The only
way I can describe it is if to say....the bass is almost vaporous, that is, it is so low, and still rolls off so smooth.
It is the type of bass that you just want to wrap yourself up in like a blanket...it is almost tangible...does that make any sense?
Enough said. I just can't believe I made something that looks and sounds this good.
A big thanks the Robert Cochrane for help with the construction.
Here is the almost complete DIY design notes for the Monolith. I hope to get some feedback and
compare notes! Not all areas are complete, but there is enough info to build the Monolith. I hope
things are not to confusing!
